our approach

What is DIRFloortime® Therapy?

Developed in the 1980s by Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Dr. Serena Wieder, DIRFloortime® is an interdisciplinary approach based on 50 years of study and research about child development from the fields of medicine, neuroscience, education, and psychology. The model is individualized and relationship-based, while following a developmental framework.

We meet children at their level, follow their lead and strengths, and focus on joyful interactions that address the child’s unique needs. Children move up the developmental ladder through effective, meaningful connections and interactive communication.

Recognized as a leading treatment for autism globally, DIRFloortime® promotes language, emotional regulation, motor planning, sensory processing, and cognitive development, helping children reach their highest social-emotional and intellectual potential. As a developmental approach, it differs drastically from behavioral approaches, which focus on specific behaviors. DIR Floortime® instead, focuses on meeting and supporting the child’s emotional and physical needs, promoting positive behavioral changes naturally through development. The approach offers a much-needed alternative to behavioral therapy techniques, which do not address the underlying processes behind the behavior.

MyPath is committed to increasing access to DIRFloortime® therapy, and providing education for parents and teachers to support early evaluation and intervention.

What additional therapies does MyPath offer?

Using DIRFloortime® as a launchpad, MyPath is committed to integrating complementary therapies into each child’s unique treatment plan. Other therapies offered through MyPath include art therapy, Spelling to Communicate therapy and Supported Typing, as well as Forbrain and Soundsory, Sound and Music therapies — all of which have been proven to offer tremendous benefits for children with ASD.

Ultimately, MyPath believes in letting the child take the lead, and works diligently to create a therapeutic plan and environment suited to their interests, strengths, and individual needs. Benefits of MyPath’s therapy options include increased pathways to communication, emotional regulation, social skill development, sensory processing, motor skill development, stress management, and cognitive development.

  • Forbrain is an auditory stimulation headset designed to help individuals with autism improve speech, attention, and focus. It uses bone conduction technology, allowing users to hear their own voice more clearly and process sounds more effectively. This can be especially beneficial for those who experience auditory processing challenges and difficulty with self-regulation – supporting individuals with ASD by enhancing speech and language skills and leading to clearer and more effective communication. Forbrain’s proven effectiveness in improving auditory feedback and concentration, also helps individuals develop stronger information retention skills while reading.

Forbrain is often used alongside other therapies—such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and play therapy. It enhances the outcomes of these interventions by improving focus, auditory processing, and communication skills.

  • Soundsory is a home-based music and movement program that uses a multi-sensory approach to support individuals with autism. Designed to improve sensory integration, motor coordination, and emotional regulation, the program combines specially engineered music with structured movement exercises. This combination stimulates both the auditory and vestibular systems, promoting greater body awareness, reduced sensory overload, and improved emotional stability.

Soundsory uses music with neuro-acoustic modifications alongside rhythmic movement exercises to simultaneously engage the auditory and vestibular systems – helping to reduce hypersensitivity and enhance overall sensory regulation. Incorporated movement activities support better coordination, balance, and body awareness. The practice reflects MyPath’s commitment to providing a holistic approach to autism support.

  • MyPath believes that all individuals have a basic human right to communicate in the way that is most comfortable for them. No one should be underestimated or overlooked, and everyone deserves to have a voice — non-speakers included. Spelling on a letterboard or keyboard is a form of Alternative Communication offered through MyPath. Practitioners employ this method to work with individuals with apraxia, building the intentional motor skills needed to accurately point to letters. As motor control and consistency improve, students progress from spelling single words, to answering questions, and eventually to sharing open-ended thoughts and ideas.

Our compassionate team of trained and experienced communication partners leverage this individualized strength-based approach to ensure people with apraxia can engage in life on their terms – following educational curriculum, expressing thoughts and emotions, enjoying conversations, participating in community, and building overall confidence.

Using carefully calibrated prompts and prompt-fading techniques, students develop increasingly complex motor skills, moving toward independent typing and voice-output. We tailor our support to each individual's unique motor profile, including ocular motor abilities and intentional gross motor control.

helping real families like yours

  • Marcy’s DIRFloortime® made meaningful changes in our son’s interactions in just a short time. During their time together, he became much more comfortable around adults and his emotional regulation improved markedly. He also began initiating dramatic play, something he had never done before. I’m so happy we found Marcy at a critical time in our son’s development, and warmly recommend her to anyone experiencing similar challenges.

  • When my daughter was diagnosed with autism at two and a half, she had no spoken language. A friend encouraged me to look into DIR Floortime®, and that’s how I found Marcy. I participated in the sessions and learned Floortime techniques firsthand. As a stay-at-home mom, I committed myself fully to using them with my daughter throughout each day. The progress was extraordinary. Within five months, my daughter’s language was nearly age-appropriate, and she no longer met the criteria for an autism diagnosis — only some developmental delays remained. After just eight months, she no longer qualified for special education services at all. Marcy truly changed the course of my daughter’s development. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

  • Marcy has been an incredible support for our family. We started Floortime with her when my son was 6. She has a rare and deeply intuitive ability to connect with him in a way that feels natural and respectful — not activating or overwhelming him, so that he can engage. Her calm presence, thoughtful approach, and genuine belief in his capabilities shine through in every interaction. Marcy is consistently prompt, professional, and communicative, and she always takes the time to collaborate and share insights. She presumes competence in everything she does, and that mindset has made a real difference in how our son responds to others. We feel very fortunate to have met her!
